Westchester

About half of Westchester is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the Northern half of Westchester is residential. The southern border is the 105 Freeway, which is also known as Imperial Highway. The Eastern border is La Cienega Blvd., at one point the border moves west on Westchester Parkway then north to West Florence Avenue then back to La Cienega Blvd. The Northern border is West Centinela Avenue and continues on Jefferson Blvd. The final border starts at Lincoln Blvd and then zig-zags through the neighborhood until it reaches Westchester Parkway to Pershing Drive. Westchester is an old neighborhood which began the 20th century as an agricultural area. Westchester rapidly grew and changed with the times because of LAX many large Aerospace Corporations were close in proximity during the 1940’s and into the 1950’s which all boomed because of the War. According to the U.S. Census there are almost 40,000 residents in Westchester.
